At The Guild’s annual awards ceremony in May, Dr. Susan Connors received a special honor for her service to the organization as a Board member, physician, parent, and advocate. Before certificates were presented to adult residents at The Guild for progress on their goals, CEO Amy Sousa spoke about Sue's impact.
“Sue reminded us—and continues to remind us—that quality of care is not only about systems and compliance, but it’s about dignity, humanity, and possibility,” said Amy. “Thank you, Sue, for your service, for your leadership, for your compassion, for your intellect, and your unwavering belief in The Guild.”
Sue served on the Board of Trustees for nine years, striving to modernize and strengthen Board governance and taking on duties as the Clerk to document Board meetings, policies, and bylaws. Her thorough policy documentation contributed to The Guild receiving and maintaining accreditation for residential programming from CARF International.
As a board-certified internist, Sue has written and presented extensively on issues of health-care access, transition, and treatment options for children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She is also the proud parent of an adult son who is a resident at The Guild. She is very engaged in quality-of-life issues for individuals with special needs, continuing her service and advocacy as a member of human rights committees at both the Nashoba Learning Group and The Guild.
When she finished her tenure on the Board last fall, Sue said, “I have learned a great deal from the leadership, staff and my fellow Trustees. I feel honored to have been part of it, and part of The Guild's growth.”
