Core Principle

Healthy eating is a core principle at The Guild because it is important to each student’s overall health both now and in the future. Nutritious and delicious meals are prepared from scratch, using carefully selected products. Whenever possible, fresh produce and products from local vendors are used.

  • Accommodating specialized dietary needs

The Guild is sensitive to each student’s dietary needs and accommodates individuals with food allergies and specialized medical needs. The following daily dietary options are offered:

    • Vegetarian
    • Gluten free
    • Kosher
    • Lactose intolerant
    • Peanut and tree-nut free
    • Diabetic diet plans
  • In our school

Breakfast selections are available throughout the school day and include:

    • Whole grain cereals, a gluten-free cereal or oatmeal
    • Low-fat milk, fat-free milk, lactose-free milk or soy milk
    • Non-fat yogurts or soy yogurt
    • Four fresh fruits daily
    • 100% fruit juices and pure water

Lunch is served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. daily in The Guild’s cafeteria. Offerings include a hot lunch and a 16-option salad bar. The salad bar features a variety of seasonal vegetables and fruits, lean protein sources, legumes and whole grains. A variety of low-fat salad dressings accompany these selections.

  • In our residences

The Guild’s focus on healthy eating carries over to the residences and each student’s specialized dietary needs are accommodated.

All proposed menus are reviewed to ensure they meet nutrition guidelines. Students and staff go together to shop for food. During growing season, they may gather ingredients from their backyard gardens. Each student typically gets to plan one dinner per week, and students help prepare the meals with staff support.
